(version française du règlement à AERA MILITUM)
The Certamen Rei publicae (Republic tournament) is organised by RTW CERTAMEN on behalf of associations NOVA ROMA FRANCE (http://www.novaroma.org/nr/Main_Page) and QUIRITES (http://www.quirites.org) from the Su. 30th July 17:00 to the Th. 9th August 2007.
It will be played on line, in the Game spy (GS) platform emulated by Rome Total War player cd, in Gold edition version.
It will oppose all the registered players, in 1 vs 1 'last man standing' battles, according the "cup" model : the winner of a battle plays, in the next turn, against the winner of another game, until the win of the final gives the name of the winner of the Certamen.
Every player (also called "General") may enter the Certamen rei publicae by registering her/him-self at the address 'info@quirites.org' just inserting in her/his e-mail the following sentence : "Please enrol me as (here put your GS name/login) in the Certamen RP of August 2007. I confirm here having read its rules and accepted them."
As a REI PUBLICAE tournament, this certamen will accept only ROMAN factiones. So every general will be authorised to play only with one of the 4 following Roman armies : JULII, BRUTII, SCIPII or SPQR. Artillery is not authorised.
The composition of each army, in order to give every general the same chances and to allow the best one to win, will be strictly the same for both players. This composition will be the following, the units size being "huge" :
- 1 Roman general unit (48 men, 1120 dn creation cost)
- 5 Hastati units (160, 440)
- 5 Legionary Cohorts of the Republic (161, 610)
- 4 Triarii units (162, 500)
- 2 Auxiliary archers units (161, 400)
- 3 Legionary cavalry (108, 790).
Each general will be given, par the host of the game, 37,430 denarii to upgrade her/his units, in the frame of the composition above, and according her/his choice.
Every battle will be played with the following conditions : summer, calm, dawn, no time limit, average difficulty.
No battle will be a seige. Every battle will be thus played on an open field, on one of the following maps, at the free choice of the hosting general :
- Syrian plains
- Southwater
- Gaul countryland
- Italian lowlands
- Pripet marsh
- Toscany bay
- Greek coast
In the 12 hours following a battle, its host must report its result to RTW CERTAMEN at 'info@quirites.org', with the name of the winner, and the type of victory. The sending of a screenshot of the "Results of the battle" table is highy recommended.
If the host fails to report, the other player may report to RTW CERTAMEN in the same conditions.
In case of a technical problem happening before the "Results of the battle" table appears on the screen, both generals concerned may freely agree of a day and hour of a restarting battle, at the condition that these day and hour are convenient with the global calendar of the Certamen. In case of difficulty, they contact RTW CERTAMEN for help. In case of disagreement or if it is impossible to replay the battle, the general whose army will have been the largest when the game has been stopped is reputed having won the battle. In case of a dispute on this point and in absence of a screenshot proving the situation, both players are reputed having fled the battle fiels and lost the game, and the general that the winner of their battle should have met on next turn is reputed having won this next battle by "forfeit".
Every cheating or non-respect of the present rules can be reported and proved by all means to RTW CERTAMEN. RTW CERTAMEN may inform the community of RTW players of such a cheating.
Players must register for this Certamen Rei publicae from Su. 30th July 17:00 to Fr. 3th August 2007 22:00. No registration will be accepted after these last day and hour.
RTW CERTAMEN will organise the tournament at best according the number of the registered generals. No claim will be accepted on this point. Similarly, RTW CERTAMEN will take the liberty changing the general organisation of the battles in case of force majeure such forfeit of two generals who were to fight together, technical difficulties relative to Game Spy platform or to other reasons.
Once the registrations closed, RTW CERTAMEN will set up the table of the scheduled battles using, if considered more fair for the balance and interest of the Certamen, seeds.
This table will be communicated in this RTW Certamen blog on Sa. 4th August 2007 before 18:00, and will be actualised during the tournament, as and when the knowledge of the results of the battles will allow filling in it. This table will specially show the names of the generals called to fight each other, the limit day and hour to fight the battle.
The general whose name is the first written in the table will host the battle. If he does not in reasonable times, the other general who he must fight may host the game. Every host let, if asked by P. Memmius Albucius or any other member of RTW CERTAMEN, him/her enter the battle which is going to start. In this case, the host and the organisation team member agree on the best way for the organiser to thus watch the battle without disturbing it.
In GS lobby, the host will call every battle he plays in the frame of this Certamen with a name containing the letters "CRP..." in order that everyone can make a difference with an ordinary battle.
The battles will take place from the Sa. 4th from 22:00 to the Th. 9th August 2007.
The final results of the Certamen Rei publicae will be published the next week in this RTW CERTAMEN blog.
The winner general will be called "Imperator (certaminis rei publicae)".
An article will be published in this blog on the certamen itself, as well, in French and English, in QUIRINUS the webzine of Quirites.
A special article, published in this blog and in AERA MILITUM will be issued on the final battle, thanks to the RTW video file that the winner or both players would have recorded and send to RTW CERTAMEN.
Last, the Imperator of the Certamen Rei publicae accepts that her/his interview, made after his last win, be published by RTW CERTAMEN on this blog, on AERA MILITUM site as well as in QUIRINUS and, if possible, in NOVA ROMA international site.
RTW CERTAMEN guarantees every player not to diffuse, against her/his will, private informations relative to her/him, such e-mail addresses, etc. that he could happen to know in the frame of this Certamen.
Every general accepts to fight with honour and according the roman virtues, which include the respect of others and of RTW CERTAMEN team. The organiser may expel from the tournament any player who would not obey this rule.
In case of a dispute according the present rules, the interpretation given by RTW Certamen is reputed to be the only correct reading of these rules.
Strenght and honour, Generals, and let the best win !
